Thanksgiving, 2006

Well, we are all here at my house, sleeping off the tryptophan load from dinner. I just extended invitations for 2 more people to contribute to the blog, my sister and mother. That way, pretty much everybody who would have a reason to read this can also post to it. Certain notable exceptions would be kin who are a little bit more distant, such as cousins and uncles. Hopefully they will be able to post something more than comments soon. The kids are being their precious selves, and all else seems to be well except for John who either has a bad virus or a pneumonia or both. I'm trying to get him better.

Strangely, it seems that an exclamation mark can not be used in the label for this post.

On 8/29/05 we had a bit of a storm in these parts. The picture on top was taken as the eye went over us, the picture below, a few days later.

Weird timestamps, explained

OK, for those of you (currently only John and me) who may be wondering what crazy time the blog is recording, the answer is that it is set on UTC, which stands for Universal Time Coordinated. Formerly known as Greenwich Mean Time. This is useful, since people are posting from more that one time zone, and UTC doesn't change with Daylight time or Standard.

Subtract 6 hours from UTC to get CST, 5 hours to get EST or CDT, or 4 hours to get EDT.

Simple. :)

problem possibly identified

Apparently the reason I couldn't make the change in the time is that I have not been chosen to be an administrator. My loving brother seems to want sole control. Either that, or through some fault of mine I am not seeing some way to make changes in settings myself.

I fixed the time stamp thing - it was set on Pacific time, I changed it to Central.

Blog host problem

This is probably the first of many problems with trying to do things right. Currently, posts are showing up as being made 2 hours earlier than they are. (default must be west coast time). When I check the help menu, I'm told to go to the settings/formatting page. However, there is NO settings page, much less a settings/formatting page, that I can find. One faq said I'd find it on the dashboard page, but the dashboard page is full of propaganda telling me how good every thing is.

Grand Opening

Announcing the grand opening of this blog, created by John, with me sort of the instigation of it. This is intended to be for family members primarily. It is unlikely that anyone else would find anything here of any interest. Posting will be intermittent, and notice of posts will probably be given via personal email.
